Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) is an important issue in the medical world, associated with increased perinatal mortality and morbidity. Impaired maternal immune tolerance is suspected to be the cause of IUGR. Low levels of Human Leukocyte Antigen-G (HLA-G) and high levels of Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-a) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of IUGR.
