Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a hyperglycemia caused by insulin deficiency, insulin resistance, or both. HbA1c is glycosylated hemoglobin at the N-terminal valine. ADA 2010 and WHO 2011 has recommended that HbA1c (≥ 6.5%) be used to diagnose DM. The standard method for measuring HbA1c, according to NGSP and DCCT, is CE-HPLC. However, this method is not available in all region, particularly in developing country.HbA1c can be measured by some other means, such as immunoassay or immunoturbidimetry, which could be used as an alternative method. This study was aimed to investigate whether HbA1c values obtained using immunoassay correlate well with IE-HPLC and average blood glucose levels.
